Autumn is upon us, and it’s time to get your home feeling cosy and inviting for those darker, longer nights in front of the TV.

Switching your home decor from summer to autumn doesn’t need to require large-scale renovations and redecorating. With the addition of a few accessories and a slight shift in colour schemes, you can transform your home into a cosy oasis instantly.

1. Invest in traditional scents

Candles are undoubtedly one of the easiest ways to introduce a warm and cosy atmosphere into the home. A simple and affordable addition to any room in the home, scented candles make the perfect decor accessory whilst setting a snuggly and welcoming mood.

It’s time to ditch the fresh and vibrant summer smells for all things pumpkin spiced, apple cinnamon and pecan pie to help channel the autumn vibes. Introducing these scents in the warm can help to channel consistent feelings of warmth and excitement for the Halloween and Christmas festivities ahead.

2. Add cosy blankets

Nothing depicts autumn quite like snuggling up in a cosy blanket to unwind for the evening and read your favourite book.

Investing in some chunky  bed throws  to layer on your sofa, chairs or bedding is the ultimate way to elevate the cosiness of your home. Opt for a dark, warm shade like olive green or teal to amp up your space and set the scene for cosy evenings.

3. Put up fairy lights

As the dark autumn evenings roll in, there’s nothing quite like sinking down on the sofa under the twinkling of faint light and the aroma of a scented candle with a hot chocolate in hand.

Fairy lights are the perfect accessory for bringing the magic of the festive season into your home and are super easy to style. Fill a glass jar with warm fairy lights, hang them over your headboard or display them on your TV unit.

To really channel the autumnal vibes, invest in some that are decorated with cute autumn leaves or pinecones.

4. Add garlands and wreaths

Gone are the days when garlands and wreaths were reserved purely for the Christmas period, now autumnal pieces are all the rage.

Hang an autumnal wreath on your door or use them to decorate chairs. String an autumnal-themed garland over your mantlepiece or the handrail of your staircase and you’ve transformed your home in an instant.

Top tip: purchase plain and switch up the look by adding pine cones and pumpkins for autumn, and then baubles and fairy lights for Christmas.

5. Dress your table

If anything is going to help your home transition between the seasons, it’s how you dress your table. Sprucing up your table for the autumn season is a super fun way to create a focal point in your home, and it can be done with just a few little changes.

Switch out your tablecloth for a brown, orange or deep red shade and source complementary napkins. Add a seasonal-themed table runner and coasters, and create a candle display for the centrepiece with foliage and pinecones.

Add some fresh flowers in a vase and pick out your favourite silverware and crockery to be displayed. There’s really no right or wrong way to dress your table, just have some fun!
